The Elkhart Head Start Program is taking applications for the 2017-2018 school year. Head Start will begin taking applications, on April 26, 2017, from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm. Head Start is a Federal Program that gives children a head start on their success in school. Head Start will be serving four year old children who will be four on or before September 1st, to help them build their education foundation before kindergarten. The enrolling parent or guardian will need to have a picture ID or driver’s license along with the following required documents to register a child: a certified birth certificate, social security number of all members of the household, up to date Immunization record, child’s insurance card, proof of residency or 911 address (utility bill or lease agreement), proof of income (2016 income tax return or W-2’s, TANF, or SSI if applicant), guardianship documentation (if applicable), current medical exam (if Medicaid enrolled), current dental exam (if Medicaid enrolled), and current hemoglobin/hematocrit test (if WIC enrolled). The Head Start program is designed to only enroll eligible families based on the federal guidelines for the program. Qualifying families will have the opportunity to participate in our comprehensive program that offers benefits to the whole family.
