Assistant Principal's Message

Julia Collins – Assistant Principal

I am a native of Elkhart and graduated from Elkhart High School in 2000. After graduation, I attended Howard Payne University and obtained my Bachelor's in Education. While at Howard Payne, I was active in their band program, Winds of Triumph, the jazz band, Tau Beta Sigma band sorority, the Science department, and various other clubs. 

I returned to East Texas after graduation and began my career as an educator. In my 20+ year career, I have taught 3rd-8th grades, both regular and special education, for four different school districts. After teaching at Palestine ISD, Westwood ISD, and Mabank ISD, I finally returned home to Elkhart and joined the Intermediate staff in the fall of 2012.

During my time at the Intermediate campus, I have worn many hats. I taught special education for two years before settling into 5th grade. I was blessed to be a part of the 5th grade team for 11 years. During my time in 5th grade, I taught Science (and 2 years of Math). As the 5th grade Science teacher, I helped build the gardening and nutrition program, brought the portable planetarium to our campus multiple times, and planned countless labs and educational field trips. Last year, I provided Dyslexia Intervention for the Intermediate campus. 

This year I have accepted the position of Assistant Principal for the Elementary, Intermediate, and Middle school campuses. I am excited to embrace this new role and continue serving Elkhart ISD and its students and staff to the best of my abilities!
